A few protesting fans said that their flags had been taken away, while others claimed they had been yelled at and mistreated. T-shirts and other things with anti-government connotations were also seized by stadium security personnel. Since the passing of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in September, protests have erupted across Iran.
The morality police in Tehran detained Ms. Amini after accusing her of failing to properly cover her hair, and three days later she passed away while still in their care. People were demanding reforms, such as increased liberties or the overthrow of the government, during the rallies that expanded across the nation. The government reacted with a brutal crackdown.
